What’s the difference between absolute co-witness and lower 1/3 co-witness height?
This model comes with an absolute co-witness mount at 1.41″ height, meaning your iron sights will appear in the center of the red dot window. This provides the tightest cheek weld and is preferred by many shooters for carbines and rifles. If you prefer a lower 1/3 co-witness (where iron sights appear in the bottom third of the window), you would need to purchase a separate mount at 1.63″ height.
How does the Solar Failsafe actually work in real-world conditions?
The solar panel on top of the optic continuously charges a backup power system when exposed to natural or artificial light. In Auto Mode, the reticle brightness automatically adjusts based on available light—brighter in daylight, dimmer in low light. If your CR2032 battery dies completely, the solar system can keep the reticle visible in adequate lighting conditions. However, for nighttime or very low-light use without a battery, you’ll need to rely on battery power since solar charging requires some ambient light.
Can I use this optic with night vision devices?
Yes, the HE515CT-RD includes 2 night vision compatible brightness settings in addition to 10 daylight settings. The lowest two settings are designed to be visible through night vision without causing blooming or washing out your NV image. The side-mounted battery tray also allows for tool-free battery changes without removing the optic from your rifle.
